Introduction

Welcome to another edition of Web Explorations for Christian Feminists. In addition to the regular three sections, I've added a special feature this time. "Expanding our Horizons" may be an occasional feature or it may become a regular one. From time to time, other extra subjects to explore may be added. Stay tuned!

Since the links under all four sections above will take you to sites outside eewc.com, please keep in mind that the Evangelical and Ecumenical Women's Caucus cannot be responsible for their content. Nor does the inclusion of a link mean that it represents the views or official position of EEWC. Rather, the links will simply direct you to sites that I think you'll find interesting, informative, challenging, inspiring, or just worth knowing about. I hope you'll enjoy exploring them.

Resources for Christian Living and Learning

"The Clothes Horse and the Beggar"
An insightful article on the parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man by the Rev. Dr. Kenneth E. Bailey, Presbyterian author and Lecturer in Middle Eastern New Testament Studies, New Wilmington, PA; Research Professor of NT at the Ecumenical Institute, Jerusalem (Emeritus), Canon Theologian of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh. The author's background in biblical customs and languages provides a fresh approach to this familiar story of a rich man and a beggar -- and its warnings about the dangers of greed and arrogance.

Science and Theology News
A monthly international newspaper summarizing news and research on the relationships between science, religion, and health. You can read the current issues and archives online.

Journal of Religion and Film
The February 2004 issue this peer-reviewed electronic journal of religion is devoted entirely to "exploring Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ." Includes articles on the history of anti-Semitism in the church; Greek, Roman, and Jewish life during the time of Jesus and the disciples; questions about media manipulation; a discussion of "Sectarian Catholicism," and more. Current and archived issues of this journal are accessible online.

Ancient Echoes: Reflections on Music and Prayer from the Time of Jesus and the Second Temple
The San Antonio Vocal Arts Ensemble has put together a research-based CD that lets us hear the music Jesus might have heard. Some of Jesus' words in Aramaic are sung to music of the period, providing rich new insights into the meanings of the beatitudes and the Lord's Prayer. If you would like to hear an online discussion of the project, illustrated with a number of the songs, listen to the excellent early music program Harmonia from Indiana University and click on "Ancient Echoes (03-10)" under the 2003 archives.  For more detailed information and translations of some of the lyrics, see "Rediscovering Music and Chant of Middle Eastern Spirituality."

Anno Domini: Jesus through the ages
An informative exhibition on how Jesus has been perceived over time. From the Provincial Museum of Alberta.
